Initially founded in 1990 by Douglas Scott as a modern dance company called Dance Force, Inc., Douglas' vision evolved as he saw the potential to be a catalyst for changing the way modern dance was created and supported in Atlanta. Through the years, we've seen many changes, including our name. In 1993, a new focus developed when Douglas began working with dancers with disabilities. Dance Force, Inc. now encompasses

- The Modern Atlanta Dance Festival (MAD), offering performance opportunities to individual artists and dance companies in Metropolitan Atlanta through the annual MAD Festival. The MAD Festival, first presented in 1995, is Atlanta's only professionally adjudicated modern/contemporary dance event.
- Positive Motion, offering educational and service to the field programs designed to educate audiences and promote Atlanta's modern dance community. Positive Motion includes technique classes, workshops, lecture demonstrations, corporate/business programming, educational programming, and master classes.
